Somolu council helmsman commissions sports arena at Angus Memorial High School

In a bid to promote grassroots sports development and nurture young talents, the Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar, has commissioned a newly constructed basketball court and other sports facilities at Angus Memorial High School, Somolu, Lagos facilitated by AMHS 95 set.

The commissioning ceremony, which took place at the school premises, was graced by key stakeholders in the education and sports sectors. Hon. Salawu, who was ably represented by the Leader of the Somolu Legislative Council, Hon. Yomi Oshunkoya, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to fostering youth development through sports.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Oshunkoya emphasized the importance of investing in school sports infrastructure, noting that the initiative aligns with the administration’s broader vision of empowering young people. He described the new sports arena as a vital step towards harnessing the talents of students, providing them with the necessary facilities to excel in various sporting activities, while commending the ‘AMHS 95 set’ for facilitating such a laudable project.

“This project is a testament to the AMHS 95 set’s dedication to grassroots sports development. They recognize that our youths have immense potential, and they provide them with the right environment to thrive. With facilities like this, they are not only promoting sports but also instilling discipline, teamwork, and a spirit of excellence in our students,” he said.

The event was attended by school administrators, sports enthusiasts, and members of the community, who expressed their appreciation for the initiative. The school’s principal commended the project, stating that the new sports facilities would go a long way in enhancing students’ engagement in physical activities and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

As part of the commissioning, a friendly basketball match was held to inaugurate the new court, further highlighting the enthusiasm of students and stakeholders towards the development.

In his closing remarks, he stated that Somolu Local Government will continue to prioritize youth and sports development with various initiatives aimed at discovering and supporting local talents.
