Tragedy struck in the Odogunyan area of Ikorodu. An officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, identified as Ogidan Adegboyega Abbas, was killed in a targeted hit-and-run attack allegedly carried out by a suspected cultist.
The fatal incident occurred on January 20, 2025, as Abass was returning home from work. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailant, driving a vehicle without a license plate, deliberately struck Abass from behind, leaving him lifeless at the scene before fleeing.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was premeditated, as the suspect, believed to be a known cult member, had allegedly been stalking the victim in the days leading up to the incident.
Sources claim the absence of a plate number on the vehicle points to an intentional effort to avoid identification, strengthening suspicions that the killing was a calculated act rather than an accident.
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that the case is being treated as a cult-related homicide. A spokesperson for the Command assured the public that efforts are underway to track down and apprehend the suspect behind the brutal act. The police have urged members of the public to come forward with any relevant information that could aid in the investigation.
Meanwhile, the bereaved family of the late Abbas is calling on the government and security agencies to ensure that justice is served. In an emotional appeal, they described the deceased as a law-abiding, hardworking individual whose life was unjustly taken.
“We are devastated by this cruel act. We want the authorities to take swift action and bring the person responsible to justice,” a family representative said.
The incident has sparked outrage in the local community, with many residents demanding stronger action against cult-related violence in Lagos and across the country.
