Lagos Parliament, Somolu 01 & 02 on Friday, 19th of July, 2024 embarked on a collaborative constituency scheme: 2024 Tree Planting Project, in line with the theme: “Nurture, Our Future” as recently staged by the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Conference57 Council Chairmen and other Youth bodies within the State.
According to one of the coordinators of the programme, Comrade Wasiu Badaru described the Tree Planting Project as a crucial environmental initiative, aimed at promoting sustainable development at the grass-roots and enhancing our neighborhoods to create a healthier, safer, and greener Lagos for all. Beyond its climate benefits, it can also help to mitigate environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

“As an Advocate of Environmental Awareness and Protection, we utilized the privilege to execute the Tree Planting Project on the premises of Oke-Metta Primary School in Somolu LGA and CMS Police Station in Bariga LCDA respectively, where we educate the Pupils, Officers, Youths, and Passers-by on the importance of Tree Planting to both communities”. He state.
The variety of the 10 Plants includes:
• Queen Palm (Cocos Palm/Jeriva): It produces a fantastic amount of oxygen which helps pretty much everything in our body.
• Cassia (Chinese Cinnamon): Contains bioactive properties like
antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, anticancer, antioxidant, etc.
• Hibiscus (Rosa-Sinensis): It may help promote weight loss, reduce the growth of bacteria and cancer cells, and support the health of the heart and liver.
• Tecoma (Yellow Bells): Treatment of diabetes, digestive problems, control of yeast infections, etc.
• Largestroemia (Crape Myrtle/Banaba): It helps to reduce blood sugar and help the body use insulin more efficiently.
Dignitaries in attendance to achieve this great feat include Prince Soyiga Adeshina (LSYP Deputy Speaker, Ikorodu 01), the esteemed/devoted Members of Ikeja Leo Club, Amb. Ruth Lijirin (SSA to Lagos Governor on Civic Engagement), SP Okoloko A. Godwin ably represented by ASP Bulu Hassan, Otunba Adegboyega Adefuwa (Supervisor for Environment, Bariga LCDA).
Others also present are Comrade Raheem Afees (Reps from Agric & Social Services Dept); Comrade Issa Kushimo, Comrade Lateef Agbakeke and Environment Health Officers; a representative from the Education and Library Dept; Alhaji Tella Tajudeen (Somolu CDC Chairman).

Also, Pioneers of PhotoGbeleyi and AbiolaAdenugbaPhotography; Representatives from Somolu/Bariga Constituency Youth, NYCN Somolu/Bariga Local Branches, and Lagos Youth for Sanwo-Olu, collectively participated to strengthen the cause for A Greater Lagos.
Comrade Badaru, however, in his closing remarks reiterated the Lagos Parliament’s readiness to always make effective impacts in its constituencies for requisite growth.
