The University of Northampton in the United Kingdom will be collaborating with Yaba College of Technology on the exchange of programmes, research and grant access.
The collaboration is in the quest for development, growth, infrastructural upgradient, empowerment of staff workforce and expansion of the college academic and skills development programmes. The aspirations are in line with the ERECT Agenda of the institution as mapped out by the present administration of the college led by the Rector, Dr Engr. Abdul Ibraheem.
The call for partnership was disclosed at a courtesy visit paid to the management by set to collaborate with Yabatech on exchange programmes. Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Art, Science and Technology, University of Northampton, Prof. Sian Davies-Vollum during her first visit to Nigeria and Yaba College of Technology
on a research project.
Sian Davies-Vollum, who is a Professor of Environmental Geoscience is excited and delighted in admiration of the first tertiary institution in Nigeria and Nigeria at large disclosed that the collaboration will be of immense benefit for both institutions as they will have a lot to gain from each other.
Professor Davies-Vollum was in Nigeria for a research project on drawing a framework for the sustainability of Lagoon in West Africa under her Resilient Lagoon Project Network body.
She hinted that the collaboration will give room for research development, especially for Ph.D. students and it will enable them to enjoy scholarships, and other numerous benefits for both staff and students of the College.
She delivered a lecture in YABATECH titled: ‘A Management Framework for the Sustainability of Lagoon in West Africa’ in which she explained that ensuring the sustainability of the world lagoon is vital to communities, ecosystems and economies, international and communities.
Multi-stakeholder platform, she explained aims to bring a new dynamic to understanding and addressing this crucial challenge. Sian Davies-Vollum who is also a co-founder of the Resilient Lagoon Network organisation
visited Lagoons on Victoria Island, community settlement on lagoons and Epe communities, the University of Lagos, and Lagos State Water Ways (LASWA) for the execution of her research work with her team.
In his address, the Rector, Dr. Engr. Ibraheem Abdul declared that the College is ready to do all it takes to move Yaba College of Technology to the next level and his administration would put in all it takes to better the lot of both staff and students.
In his words, ‘We are always on the lookout to access grants locally and internationally for research development, we have Centre for Research Support and Grant Management and Centre for Linkages, Partnership and International Relations, therefore we have what it takes for collaboration”.
“We are delighted to see you in our institution and the desire for partnership, we are highly grateful for this opportunity, it will not be taken for granted, and we are ready for the collaboration”.
Present at the visit were other members of the Resilient Lagoon Network organisation, Dr. Olufunmilayo Doherty, who is also the College Ag.
