In order to rid the state of poliovirus and keep the children in good shape, the Somolu LG has set the ball rolling as the council commenced training of Ad-hoc staff ahead of the 4-day polio vaccination exercise targeted at the children under the age of 0-5 years billed to commence from Saturday 21st and end on Tuesday 24th of July, 2023.
According to the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) of Somolu local government; Dr. Bidemi Agboola stated that the 3 days of ad-hoc staffs training become necessary in order for them to execute the polio exercise as expected, moving from house to house to ensure all the children under the age of 5 years are vaccinated against poliovirus.
She added, “The state government has been enlightening the populace through the electronic, print, media, posters and other means possible while we’ve been supporting at the local level through the local government structure, the market women, religious groups, artisans, and the Health Education unit of the local government to mobilize and further enlighten community”.
“And we want to appeal to mothers that the one we’re giving during the campaign is different from the one they’ll get when they bring the children to the clinic, the content is different. So, when we give children this, we’ll still appeal to mothers to bring their children and take the one from the clinic”. She stated
Meanwhile, one of the CDA Executives, Alhaji Tella Inuolajin has applauded the state governor; Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the robust health programme, a core part of his T.H.E.ME. Agenda which goes a long way in eradicating unwanted poliovirus in the Somolu community and Lagos state at large.
“As CDA Executive, we know the significant of this health programme and we’re always available to ensure the programme runs without any hindrance from beginning to the end”.
In his conclusion, Alhaji Tella enjoined all the mothers in the community whose children are under age 5 to avail themselves of the opportunity to administer the vaccine to keep their children in good shape while assuring the government of the unwavering community support where and when necessary.
