In the Qualifying Round One of men’s singles of the ongoing WTT Contender Lagos 2023 at the Indoor Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria player Rilwan Akanbi beat his Nigerian counterpart Adebowale Akinyemi floating above the water in the encounter.
The elated Akanbi said he was fully prepared for the game and was so excited to have won at the end.
He adds, “I’m so excited to have won my first match because I was prepared for the match and I am really looking
forward to playing my next opponent in the tournament.”
Meanwhile, Jang SEONGIL (KOR) showed Akinwale FAGBAMILA (NGR) the stuff he’s made of as he defeated him 3-1. Fagbamila who was a bit nervous at the beginning of the game later get used to the game and everything seems fine for him in the match but couldn’t make much impact before the match ends.
Similarly, Felix LARTEY (GHA) lost to PENG Wang-Wei (TPE) 3-0 in the Qualifying Round One of Men’s Singles
describing the match as quite a good experience for him noting he could have made much impact but owing to lack of regular tournaments that could bring out the best in him.
“I am happy coming back to Nigeria to partake in this tournament because we don’t have this kind of tournament
in Africa. I am grateful for the chance to play because Nigeria is experienced when it comes to staging a top-class event. I played quite well but you cannot win all time and I hope to return to training to correct my mistakes.
The unforgettable action was not without drama that put the fans on their feet throughout the encounter.
