The candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Somolu Constituency 1, Hon. Abiodun Orekoya has debunked rumours making rounds that he is collecting the electorate’s PVC with the intent of disenfranchising people from the 2023 general elections.
The malicious news, which emanated from a People’s Democratic Party, PDP Whatsapp platform reads, “Breaking News: It has been brought to our notice that, a group of APC members has started collecting people’s PVC and submitting it to Mr. Orekoya, the Somolu APC LAHA candidate in order to disenfranchise them from voting.
Let us be guided.
Meanwhile, reacting to the rumour, the Director-General of Orekoya – Independent Campaign Group (O-ICG), Hon. Bowale Sosimi described the claims as fake news and urged the public to disregard the message.
He described the claims as unfounded, malicious, and capable of misleading the community and the General Public.
Sosimi lambasted the originators of the message, calling them mischievous makers working for a misguided motive.
In a statement on Saturday, Sosimi noted that people love evil reports about those, who have demonstrated exemplary leadership in government, particularly about those passionate about attracting development to their constituency.
“It’s quite baffling and sad that people are so passionate about negativity. And this is really the bane of our development. Negativity and fake news will not earn mischief-makers anything but abysmal failures.
This report about Hon Orekoya collecting PVCs from people is an arrant lie peddled from the pit of hell.”
He further stated; “Hon Orekoya is a seasoned and accomplished professional. He is well travelled and has served in various capacities, adding value to governance and community building. He is a homegrown politician who is sportsmanship-driven.
He will never descend low to be collecting people’s PVCs, neither will he make moves to disenfranchise people from participating in elections. Orekoya rather encourages and provides measures in place for electorates to get their PVC to be able to vote in 2023,” he added.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress has alerted the umpire; the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on this flagrant disregard to the dictates of Electoral Law 2020 as regards invectives capable of unduly heating up the Polity and bringing the process to disrepute. The Party enjoins its members to be steadfast, committed, and disregard all attempts to lose focus in ensuring the complete annihilation of opponents at the General Elections come 2023.
