A large number of youths and stakeholders at Abiodun/Aiyepe in the Somolu area of the state trooped out on Sunday 13th February 2022 to engage in clean-up exercise following the drainage blockage experienced around Aiyepe and Abiodun axis leading to the Abiodun canal.
Speaking to Somolu News correspondent, one of the landlords in the area, Mr. Muyiwa Ogunyoye said the exercise became necessary to avert avoidable flooding and other untold hardship to both motorists and residents of the area since the rainy season is much around the corner.
He continued, “Honestly, coming out to clear the blockage is very important so as to remove all the plastic bottles, nylon, and some other remnants that might have caused the blockage ahead of the rainy season. We do not want the bad experience of yesteryear where the whole community was flooded and the rest is history”.
“As a conscious and committed stakeholder, I came out this morning with a rake trying to unblock the drainage, and before I could say anything, I saw some other people from the neighbourhood in a collective effort to clear the drainage and I’m so excited with the level of cooperation put in by everyone in the area”. He enthused
In a similar situation, Mr. Bamidele Paseda thanked the youths and the community stakeholders who took part in the clean-up exercise while urging the third tier of government to assist in carting away the bagged waste so as not to find its way back into the drainage.
“I must at this juncture appreciate the community leaders, the youth, and other stakeholders who ensure things are put in their rightful places especially during the clearing of the drainages which become so paramount at this critical moment”.
“I also want to use the medium to express sincere appreciation to LAWMA contractor for their timely routine attendance to the community when and where necessary”. He opined Meanwhile, the blockage has in the last few days caused the water from the drainage to overflow and overrun the street which has become an eyesore in recent times and that could afterward damage the well tarred Abiodun road if the situation is not addressed headlong.
