St’ Paul Primary school on Friday 18th November 2021 stunned Olaolu Primary school in a dramatic and exciting football match to win the final of 2021 edition of Dullar Kids Cup.
The match which was played at the football fans studded UNA primary school playground had ended 1-0 at the regulation time after St’ Paul fought gallantly from zero to heroes of the game.
St’ Primary school, backed by over overwhelming supporters dominated both halves of the game banged in the winning goal in just a few minutes to the end of the game after several unsuccessful efforts from the captain of the side, Godwin Ehiri.
Ehiri in his wisdom, found space between two of Olaolu’s defenders to slot in from close range.
The late and the winning goal sent St’ Paul players and supporters into wide jubilation that lasted for several minutes before returning for action.
St’ Paul took absolute control of the game, dictating the play as Olaolu defenders laboured helplessly to curtail the rampaging St’ Paul attackers, led by Godwin Ehiri.
They barely kicked the ball around when the referee blew the whistle signaling the end of the game.
Meanwhile, in the third-place match between Baptist primary school and Jehovah Shalom, it was a field day for Jehovah Shalom Primary school team having to prove the stuff they were made of as Jehovah Shalom playmaker, Chidebem Enem found the back of the net in just six minutes into the match from the edge of the box eighteen to register the team’s first goal.
As if that was not enough, Chidebem scored another goal for his team in the last minutes of the first half from the same spot to make it two goals.
Although, the Baptist team was able to equalize when an infringement was spotted by the referee right in Shalom’s box eighteen yards which spurred Baptist players to put in more efforts with the hope of levelling up but to no avail.
The game ended 2-1 in favour of Jehovah Shalom primary school carting away the curvetted trophy and the prize money of N15,000.00 for the third-place match. The first and second place winners went home with N30,000.00 and N20,000.00 respectively for their efforts.
In his remarks, the council helmsman, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’ who was represented by the Chairperson of the council, Hon. Chief Mrs. Mariam Omotanwa Salau reiterated his commitment towards ensuring sports strives in Somolu local government noting that sporting activity of such magnitude will not only bring pride and honour to the athletes but also to the community.
Present at the epoch-making sporting event includes the Immediate Past Chairman of the council; Hon. Omogbolahan Bagostowe, the Vice-Chairman of Somolu local government; Hon. Kunle Ekiyemi, the Leader of the House; Hon. Yomi Oshunkoya, the Deputy Leader of the House; Hon. Tajudeen Ibrahim, the Majority Leader; Hon. Muibi Abdullateef, his Deputy; Hon. Bolaji Teluwo, the Chief Whip; Hon. Lateef Ashimi, his Deputy; Hon. Tunde James and not leaving out a representative from Local Government Education Authority; Mrs. Yemi Omotayo.
Others were the former Special Adviser to the council chairman on Market Matter; Hon. AbdulRasaq Tajudeen, Special Adviser to the council chairman on Special Duties; Hon. Dele Afolabi, former Special Adviser to the council chairman on Market Women; Hon. Mrs. Omolara Rabiu, Director-General, Dullar Continua Group, Hon. Adeeso Sodiq (Obama), Personal Assistant to the Chairperson of the council, Mrs. Maryam Owolabi Bada, and a guest of the chairperson, Dr. Chris Akinwale.
However, the Chief Executive Officer of Amawell Sports, Mr. Wellington Jighere has promised to make the next edition of the game more exciting and memorable with more features.
