As part of activities to mark his 100th Day in office, the sports loving and talents hunting Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu has kept the hope of football enthusiasts alive as he is set to host the much talked about ‘Dullar Kids Cup Season 2’.
According to the Chairman, ably represented by Hon. Mariam Salawu (Chairperson), he stated that his administration is strongly determined to promote the youths of Somolu for Nation building.
Recall that the Season 1 of the Dullar Kids Cup was held in October 2019 when St. Augustine, Baptist and S.S. Peter & Paul Primary Schools went home with the first, second and third prizes respectively.
Meanwhile, the dreaded Coronavirus pandemic affected the football competition from holding last year but plans are on top gear for this year’s competition.
While briefing stakeholders and pressmen few days ago, Mr. Osas Wellington of Amawell Sports Academy disclosed that the Chairman is keenly committed to the grassroot, stressing that he is ever ready to help the young ones succeed through sports and to also develop their abilities.
From the Legislative Council, Hon. Abdul-Lateef Muibi (the Majority Leader and House Committee on Agric, Rural, Sport & Social development) enjoined the pupils to be more focused, while Hon. Abdul-Lateef Ashimi (Chief Whip and House Committee on Education, Information & Business) reiterated that the Honourable Councillors in entirety alongside the Executives were in full support of youth development for the progress of the community.
Meanwhile, Hon. Oyeyiola Tunde James (Deputy Chief Whip and House Committee on Works & Infrastructure) advised the participants to make their parents and tutors proud, for they are the future of tomorrow.
On the other hand, Hon. Olumide Akinola (Erstwhile Supervisory Councillor for Health) urged all to put in their best so as to attain the height of leadership, not only in sports, but in their academics inclusive. Also, Mrs Omotayo Yemi (Sport Officer) appreciated the Chairman and the notable speakers in the presence for their commendable actions toward the success of the programme.
In brief, last year winner, St. Augustine will entertain play from Adebule, while the runner-up, Baptist will take on Agunbiade. The third place teams, St. Peter & Paul square it up with Modupe, while St. Paul will be on standby for second round.
