Mix reactions greet reconstruction of roads in Somolu as contractors begin execution of projects.

There had been furore over reconstruction of roads in some parts of Somolu area of the state which was facilitated by the lawmaker representing Somolu constituency I at the Lagos House of Assembly, Hon. Olowo Rotimi Olowo Emmanuel as a result of demolition that affect some houses in the area.

Hon. Olowo had facilitated the reconstruction of Akanni, Aiyepe, Oluwalogbon, Ogunbadejo, Moshalashi street and some other adjoining streets to compliment other road networks he had completed in the community for free entry and exit of human, goods and services.

Speaking to Somolu News, one of the owners of the affected building, Mr. Josiah Emmanuel had reacted saying pulling down structures or houses that put foods on the table of common man in the name of development without considering the aftermath effects of the such decision on the affected individuals is a share wickedness.

He adds, “Even though we clamour development, we did not clamour for development that’ll impoverish us. Many of us depends on the inherited structures to feed our families and when such are being pull down, how does government want us to survive? There’s a way the construction can be executed without putting us on the sword edge”.

“The worst part of it is that the government didn’t mention anything about compensation for the affected residents/landlords for them to move on with their lives without losing on both ends”. He noted

However, while some were spitting fire over the development, some were busy applauding the facilitator, Hon. Olowo Rotimi Emmanuel for putting up such social amenities that’ll benefit the people of Somolu community.

One of the residents/landlords who claimed anonymity for fear of being attack by affected individuals said, for development to take its toll in any community, state or country, sacrifices must be made and such is what has been happening in the community in the recent times.

“The roads networks are bad and need the attention of the government. Motorists have been finding it difficult accessing some of theses roads while some vehicle owners have had their cars damaged in the process which had rendered some businesses inactive owing to the abandonment of the roads”. He explained

Meanwhile, contractors have been seen moving in their equipment and have started work in earnest in some areas of concern.
