COMPASS President appointed as a member of Lagos State Triathlon Association

The President of Community Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (COMPASS) and Publisher of Lagos Panorama, Tayo Aderinola has been appointed as a member of the board of Lagos state Triathlon Association as approved by the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The inauguration which was held at the indoor hall of Molade Okoya Thomas, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos on 17th March 2021 amidst pomp and pageantry brought together sports stakeholders, academics, businessmen and women alike not leaving out sports-loving fans who turned out enmass to give the honour it deserves.

The COMPASS scribe was sworn-in alongside other associations members with a promise to take their respective associations to the next level.

Other members of the Lagos state Triathlon association include Mr Kayode Oguntayo (Chairman), Mr Olorunfunmi Ojo Raphael, Mr Tayo Aderinola, Mr Abideen Giwa, Mr Dadeowo Akande Razaq and Mr Dapo Ajibade.

Meanwhile, about 43 sports associations were inaugurated by the Lagos State Sports Commission to bring out the best of the associations.

Speaking at the inauguration, the commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Hon. Segun Dawodu congratulated the newly appointed members of Lagos sports associations and urged them to serve the commission diligently, honourably and assiduously.

Dawodu said, “Obviously, we’ve appointed credible men and women in the state owing to their track record to move the sports forward and we look forward to their positive contributions to sports development in Lagos”.

He adds, ”We all know this is the centre of sports in the country. You have a lot of work to do collectively to come up with series of sustainable sports programmes and improve on them”.

“We’re investing in sports this year and beyond which means everyone must be up and doing”. he stated

In addition to the existing 40 Sports Associations in the state, 3 associations were created; (Monopoly; added to Scrabble to form the Lagos State Scrabble and Monopoly Association, Lagos State Netball Association, Lagos State E-sports Association and the Cheer Leading Association) thereby increasing the total number to 43 with a total number of 277 Members as part of the Government’s plan to reposition Lagos as the bedrock of Sports in the country.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Sports Commission, Hon. Toyin Gafar (Bolowotan) in his keynote address urged the newly inaugurated association board members to see themselves as a tool to help develop sports in the state and as well improve on the welfare of the athletes.

He stresses further, “In two years, we want to see tremendous improvement in our sports in terms of organising of competitions, perception and in terms of general improvement to the public.

In conclusion, he enjoined the youth to key into the sports programmes in the state so as to make our society a better place to realise the themed agenda of Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
