Youths, catalyst for development

The youth has been described as a source of societal development, hence, the need for government to channel more efforts on their productively.

This was the summation at the National Youth Council of Nigeria, (NYCN) Lagos East Interactive session and the launch of the magazine tagged Eastern Mirror.

The guest speaker, Dr. Abdul Kareem Onakoya urged the government to adopt a more workable developmental agenda for the youth.

Onakoya said: “To achieve a developmental youth agenda, employment opportunities should be available for the youth, this will help to engage them and also provide an income to meet their needs. However, the youth should also be proactive and ready to work”.

Secretary to Somolu Local Government, Adesanya Taiwo who represented Member House of Representatives’ member, Kuye Ademorin, enjoined the youth to be ready to face challenges when the need arises.

He implored them to tap into the opportunities created by the government.

Doyin Adebanjo, who stood in Bariga LCDA Chairman, said: “You all need to be good ambassadors, lead with integrity and be ready to be problem solvers. Participate in practical politics as this will further bring to the limelight the Nigeria you so desire.”

Giving a remark about the magazine, the Editor-in-Chief, Kausara Olaleye said: “It entails impactful activities such as walk against rape and social vices, clean-up exercise, innovative programmes, sports, security awareness, and ICT. The activities of NYCN Lagos East won’t just be on social media but also in the print format with captivating pictures. This indeed will serve as a reference in the future”.

Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth development, Saheed Afonja, said the government won’t relent on youths’ development activities.

Vice-Chairman of NYCN Lagos East, Abdul Fatai Ajibola said: “Lagos East youths are determined to change the narratives in the society by ensuring that everyone is involved in the growth of their respective communities. The developmental activities of each local branch are a continuous one.”
