As a means of providing a common platform for the entire Somolu Youth, the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN Somolu Branch held a decisive management meeting with members organizations at the grassroots, mostly Voluntary Youth Organizations, VYOS and Community Based Organizations, CBOS at the Somolu Local Government Conference Hall on Saturday, September 19th, 2020.
As part of the functions of the youth council to awaken the consciousness of Nigerian Youth, as clearly stated in the NYCN constitution amended in 2012, which necessitated the need to conscientiously evolve in an ideal society.
The Executives of the council as led by Comrade Musa Fasasi (Coordinator) thrust forward in enlightening the member’s organizations on active participation by constituting themselves as eligible members of the council.
On the other hand, Comrade Kola Abdul-Kabir (Secretary) who shed more light on the objectives of the council as intended to achieve with each representative, joined Mr Anjorin Afeez (former Financial Secretary, NYCN Somolu Branch), Comrade Abdul-Qawiyy Busari (NANS JCC Chairman, Lagos Axis), CPS Owolabi Oseni (Chief Press Secretary, Somolu LG), Comrade Ibukun Awoseye (General Legal Council, JCIN Yabatech Chapter) and Mr Saheed Bisiriyu (Youth Officer, Agric & Social Services Department) to proffer more insights in enhancing the council’s coordination.
Mr Saheed while applauding the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu for his relentless contributions to youth development through the department of Agric and Social Services, he emphasized on detesting division and discrimination within the council, so as to build a strong workforce in attaining the rightful support from the community.
In response to the proposed youth week programme and the directorate positions as buttressed by the Coordinator to develop the roadmap for positive engagement in running the youth council affairs, substantial recommendations were made by Comrade Mubashir Fashola, Comrade Sodeko Ihsan, Comrade Michael Eneji, Comrade Oluwapelumi Asesanya, Comrade Uthman Tijani, Ogunlana Isiaq and Salami Afeez, which affirmed their unfeigned support to the executives.
Among other crucial matters as discussed during the peaceful deliberation, more emphasis was laid majorly on adding Certification to the Leadership Training Programme, LTP, Limiting the directorate positions for effective discharge of duties, payment of annual dues, Fundraising from corporate organizations, Sensitization of good boys within the community, Rally against Rape, Humanitarian visit to prison yard/motherless babies home, Involvement of Somolu Students Association, Inclusion of special people and Invitation of successful personalities who hailed from Somolu to gain from their past experiences.
Meanwhile, Comrade Musa acquainted the representatives of each VYOS and CBOS to opted for any of their desired directorate positions through the secretariat, with Comrade Kola assuring of working further on the modalities needed before the Google Forms would be broadcasted as unanimously agreed.
In the same vein, the Executives of the Council alongside all the representatives of the Voluntary Youth Organizations and Community Based Organizations deemed it fit to rejoice with CPS Kausara Olaleye (Financial Secretary) and Comrade Oluwapelumi Asesanya (YOWICAN Representative) with a fun-filled display of lively moment, as they both marked their birthdays with a show of love and togetherness.
During the closing remark as done by Comrade Modupe Fashoro (Deputy Coordinator), the executives extended their heartfelt appreciation to Hon. Mariam Salawu (Chairperson), Alhaji Abdul-Kabir Raji (Supervisory Councillor for Works & Infrastructure), Hon. Gbolamiga Dawodu (Council Engineer), Hon. Afolarin Olubiyi (CODED), Mr Olalekan Otaiku (SA on Special Duties), Department of Agric and Social Services, the LNSC Officers, the CDC and CDAs, specifically for the assistance rendered from their ends toward the success of the management meeting.
