Still living up to his campaign promises on accessible, affordable and quality healthcare services in Somolu, the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu is intensifying his efforts to take health facilities more closer to people at the grassroots level.
Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu while on a visit to the new healthcare centre which is near completion at the U.N.A. Primary School complex on Onafowokan/Oluwadare street. said “he is satisfied with the quality of construction works done at the healthcare centre which will cater to over 20,000 families within Bajulaiye/Fola-Agoro and Bashua Westwards in Somolu. Hon. Yomi Osunkoya (Leader of the Council), Mr Lai Giwa (Council-Manager), Ogbeni Taiwo Adesanya (Secretary to the Local Government), Mr Quam Eshinlokun (Procurement Officer), Hon. Ayodele Afolabi (Chief of Staff) and Pastor Femi Taiwo (APC, Somolu Chairman) were with the Executive Chairman during the visit.
Speaking to pressmen after the visit, the Mayor of Somolu said one of the duties of a democratically elected government is to make health services to be qualitatively accessible and affordable if not free. “We are building the sixth Primary Healthcare Centre in Somolu to make health care services to be accessible and affordable as the residents of Somolu can testify to the fact that a child delivery at Akoka PHC is free of charge”, the Mayor said.
According to the council Medical Officer of Health (MOH), Dr Sunday Orebiyi, when completed, the new Primary Health Centre will be running 24hours and will be of great benefit to the people of Somolu as the facility is located in an area far from other five Primary Healthcare Centres in Somolu. Hon. Williams Lawansin (Former Sole Administrator of Somolu LG), Hon. Mike Oikhe (Former Education Secretary of Somolu LGEA), Hon. Olumide Akinola (Supervisor for Health) and Hon. Adewale Oseni (Supervisor for Agric & Social Services) were also at the visitation.
The Supervisor for Works & Infrastructure, Alhaji Kabir Raji said the multiple rooms health care facility is constructed to stand the test of time as the pharmaceutical section, consulting rooms, labour rooms, Surgical Theater, records room and post-natal wards are part of the facilities in the Primary Healthcare Centre. Engr. Gbolamiga Dawodu (Council Engineer) made it known that the PHC should be ready for commissioning soon provided the weather is favourable.
