The Baale of Owode community, Bariga LCDA, High Chief Olusegun Aromire Ajose has berated the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC), for what he called ‘deliberate efforts’ by the power company to frustrate consumers by overbilling them.
Briefing somolunews on Tuesday morning in his palace, chief Aromire described the situation as a pathetic one as the company keep the community in the dark without genuine explanation or being carried along while they still bring ‘killer bill’ at the end of the month.
“Imagine switching us from one unit (Orthopaedic) to another unit (Adurosakin) without informing the community, they don’t come to read our analogue meter any longer. A lot of things is wrong that we’ll need to address”.
“Anytime we complain, they’ll ask us to go and get a prepaid meter and the said prepaid meter is not easy to get. And some of the residents in the community-made several attempts to get the prepaid meter but at the end of the day, it was efforts in futility”.
“Even the prepaid meter which was initially sold for N38,000 has been increased to N45,000 while the one that goes for N78,000 is now N85,000. Even when you have the money buy, the process of getting it is cumbersome and discouraging. It’s not something one can get within a week or two”. he lamented
“We are taking a drastic step to address this syndrome. We’re going to write to them and copied all the needed authorities and tell them what we want such as the issue of prepaid meter and the ‘killer bill’. Enough is enough, we’ll no longer tolerate the cheating that has been perpetrated from time immemorial, this act has to stop stop”. he lamented
“The sad thing about this issue is that the power supply company is not considerate enough as they still come around to disconnect the light while many of the consumers are still at home owing to the lockdown since three months ago. The power supply one cannot enjoy for 24 hours”.
“Mind you, we’ve held a meeting where it was agreed that we should tàke details from house to house in the community from March-May and support it with a letter requesting for how the bill is being share on monthly basis and if they cannot give us the details, it is better they furnish the community with prepared meters without leaving out a single house, anything short of that means they’ll have to stop supplying the community”.
“And the prepaid meters we’re demanding for is such that will be given at instalment basis since it’s company’s property while the community will be paying monthly”.
Chief Aromire further pointed out that the outstanding on the previous meters will be shared equally after installation of the prepaid meters.
