As part of activities to stem the community spread of the notorious Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in the event of the lockdown relaxation announced by the Lagos State Government, the Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Samson Folorunso Olatunde (SAMOLA) yesterday Tuesday 5th May 2020 extended MASK-UP OLORUNDA initiative to the resident security agencies in the LCDA.
The initiative is a replication of Babajide Sanwoolu-led Lagos State Government’s “MASK-UP LAGOS” that has seen the State Government facilitate the distribution of nose masks across the State in a bid to curb the community spread of the Coronavirus while the lockdown is gradually eased in the coming days. The use of nose masks in all public spaces has since been made mandatory and has informed the move by Hon. Samola to explore the possibility of making nose masks easily accessible to his constituents.
You may recall that it was reported on Monday 27th April 2020 that the Council Mayor and his team had activated the MASK- UP protocol in Olorunda in a modest ceremony that saw members of the Executive and Legislative arms of the government as well as Special Assistants to the Chairman and HODs being the first recipients.
The second batch of nose masks has since been rolled out as reported on Saturday 2nd May 2020 with Council-wide distribution going on in the background. Speaking on the efforts of the LCDA regarding fostering the availability of nose masks to residents, the Council boss established that the Importance of the move cannot be overstated, citing the contagious nature of the virus as the motivating factor.
The Council boss went on to present the nose masks to the security agencies through their representatives. Mr Josu Martins, Admin Personnel of Morogbo Police Station who represented the DPO of Morogbo Police Station, CSP Chu James as he received 100 pieces of nose masks on behalf of the Division. Inspector Osagie Anthony, standing in for ACP Ahmed Jamilu Muhammed (Area Commander, Area K Police Command) also received 100 pieces of nose masks on behalf of the Police Command.
Mr Talabi Ebenezer, the Corps Superintendent (CS) LNSC Olorunda equally received 100 pieces of nose masks being for LNSC, Olorunda LCDA command. The final presentation was for the Council workforce and was received by the Head of Admin and Human Resources (HRO), Mr Temidayo Fashina who received 340 pieces on behalf of the workforce.
Appreciating the Council Chairman on behalf of the entire workforce, Mr Fashina thanked Hon. Samola for his constant display of concern for the welfare of members of staff as well as the palliatives extended to members of staff during the total lockdown.
“I appreciate the Chairman for the gesture bestowed on the workforce to safeguard the health of members of staff. We also want to thank him for the support he extended to us through the palliatives (relief packages). We are very grateful and thank him for always looking out for us”
In a brief chat with the media, the Chairman spoke on the rationale behind the presentations stating clearly that as well as the general public, the security outfits and the workforce, in general, add up significantly to the number of people who are exposed daily. In his words;
“A lot is expected of our security agencies and the workforce. They put themselves out there every day and that adds up to exposure. But with the nose masks, we are reducing their level of exposure significantly. I urge the people to remember them in their prayers. This is humanity’s fight as a whole. It affects us all.”
Also to benefit from the distribution were non-pensionable staff of the Council.
