Deputy Minority Whip, house of Representatives extends his hands of love to his constituents

Rt. Hon. Adekoya Adesegun Abdel-Majid, the Deputy Minority Whip in the 9th National Assembly as traditional with him has extended his hands of love to his Constituents. The Distinguished House of Representatives member representing the good people of Ijebu North / Ijebu East / Ogun Waterside, Ogun State, has made the presentation of food items ranging from rice, gari, noodles, Semovita to others to be distributed to his people in solidarity with them during this stay-at-home order by the government in a bid to check the spread of COVID-19.

While presenting the items, Rt. Hon Adekoya Adesegun Abdel-Majid took his time to appreciate the Federal and state governments, especially Governor Dapo Abiodun, MfR, for their swift response to the pandemic in terms of mass enlightenment, regular updates, creation of centres where people are being attended to, and provisions of palliative measures to cushion the effects of the lockdown order on our people.

He, however, enjoined the state government to do more in the area of Palliative as the lockdown order has grossly affected the lower class members of society especially those dwelling outside the Cities and major towns and whose economy depends on daily commercial activities. He sought the support of other well-meaning indigenes of the state especially those from his Federal Constituency to join hands with the government in reaching out to the poor and the less privileged who are the worst hit by this development.

The Ago-Iwoye born Lawmaker whose watchword has always been “Leadership for followers” counselled his Constituents many of whom reside in the rural centres and are predominantly farmers and artisans to be close to their radio sets for better awareness and educative programmes and updates on the virus. He, however, urged them to take care of their environments, stay hygienic, wash their hands thoroughly now and then, and observe social distancing.

While assuring them that the foodstuff so presented are the first tranche of the Palliatives coming from him, he went further to advise them to take their health seriously and not to do self-medication or use locally-made portions as such has not been medically proved to cure Coronavirus. He appealed to his Constituents to report cases of any suspected signs of unusual, unhealthy feelings or developments to the nearest public medical Centre around them.

Hon. Adekoya Adesegun Abdel-Majid also urged the Federal government and the Power Authority to improve on power generation, and distribution as the stay-at-home order would make life a nightmare for his people and Nigerians in general if the power supply is not available. He stressed that the majority of Constituents cannot afford to fuel their generating sets given the paucity of fund occasioned by the lockdown. To him, the regular power supply will go a long way in reducing stress and criminal intentions from idle hands.

He also called on Law enforcement officials and military personnel drafted by the state and Federal governments to help enforce the stay-at-home order to do their work most diligently, as decently and as humanly possible, and with the fear of God. He reminded them that Nigerians are not at war so collateral damage should be avoided. He enjoined law officers to treat citizens with the utmost respect and avoid recording incidences of violence and human rights abuse while the lockdown period lasts.

The Lawmaker advised his people to be law-abiding, cooperate with law enforcement officials, stick to the order issued out by concerned authorities and stay safe to be able to reap more dividends of democracy.

Rt. Hon Adekoya Adesegun Abdel-Majid wished to reassure the good people of his Federal Constituency of his undying love and solidarity with them in the face of the ongoing strains and financial stress occasioned by the ravaging pandemic and its attendant effects on everyone. It is his wish to let them know that this is not a ‘one-off’ measure as other items will follow suit in the coming days.

He wished all to:

Be responsible
Stay safe
Stay alive
And pray to God
