There have been mixed reactions over COVID-19 lockdown extension shortly after President Muhammad Buhari’s nationwide broadcast recently which was put in place to stop the spread of the pandemic coronavirus in the country.
According to reports from the lockdown states (Lagos, Ogun and FCT) have it that some residents have expressed their opinions that the federal government directive was in good order to protect the lives of the citizens.
“We’re talking about human life here and not animals and even, if it’s livestock, we still have to take drastic measures to safeguard them”
“To be candid with you, the stay-at-home order is in the best interest of the masses and I think it’s the best thing to do to contain the spread of the pandemic coronavirus”.
“Though the country is experiencing serious economic hardship that’s not to say the government should neglect the most important aspect which is human life. Besides, one cannot compare what is happening in here with what is happening in the UK or America where they die on a daily basis”. he noted
However, some residents kicked against the extension saying that government has failed woefully in the provision of palliative for good numbers of people in the just concluded one which started in late March 2020.
“How exactly does the federal government want us to survive this 14 days extension when we just returned from darkest time having expended the meagre saved over time and government did nothing to salvage the situation”.
“We only read about the palliative on the pages of the newspaper and as well hear about it on radio and television, it has not been given to us as planned. What will be the fate of our family when we don’t have the means to feed them”.
Meanwhile, there has been panic buying while the prices of food items have also gone up drastically since the federal government pronouncement on Monday leaving the common man the choice of survival of fittest.
