Students, parents and invited guests all across Lagos state were in attendance as MIMS group of schools held their 6th edition of their inter-house sports on Thursday 19th March, 2020.
The prestigious Teslim Balogun stadium, Surulere Lagos was agog with the schools annexes from Somolu, Surulere and Epe were in attendance to compete for honours.
Speaking at the school’s 2020 inter-house sports competition, the Board chairman, Prince Adesegun Abdul-Majid Ogungbayi who described the sporting event as an impressive one said the essence is to establish physically, mentally and academically sound and stable minds.
“We want to use sports to achieve quite a lot of things playing the actual roles as far as sports development is concerned”.
“Just as they are performing well in their academic pursuit, we also want them to equally repeat that in sports to better their lots in life”.
He stated further that, “through participating in school sports and games, pupils are likely to hone their skills and make a living, when they become adults.
He disclosed that MIMS has been positioned to meet student’s yearnings for knowledge, academic excellence, as well as produce pupils/students of great academic and moral standards as he advised them to remain focus and not get carried away by what they watch on television.
” It’s only when one is academically and physically sound that such students/athletes can be marketable. In essence education is very important for one to make it in life”.
“Anyone that’s not educated, there’s already a limitation for such person. So, I want to advise the students to play uncommon role to achieve topflight academic as well as sporting career in the future’. he stated
In the words of one of the parents present at the sporting arena, Engr. Fahid Olajide, the Executive Director, Academic Excellent Initiative described the event as a tool for competitive spirit.
“Obviously, I have seen a lots of athletes that started well but could not make it to the podium while others did. It has shown clearly that it has to do with out-of-class training which no doubt will help them to have a formidable competitive spirit and as well have fun”.
“This kind of events also allows the school management to spot talents and nurture them judiciously. Right here, we’ve seen many of them who are gifted and I believe this is the right opportunity to harness and nurture to them greater height combining their education and sports together “.
Engr. Olajide however, enjoined parents to give their wards who have interest in sports the necessary supports to attain greatness while he also urged corporate bodies to contribute their quota to development of sports which stands as their corporate social responsibility.
Meanwhile, the overall result of the events place Blue house from MIMS Somolu Pry school in first position followed by Yellow while Green and Purple house settled for third and fourth position.
MIMS secondary school Somolu followed in the same manner with Blue claiming the first position, Yellow wrestled for second leaving Green and Purple in third and fourth position respectively.
Report coming from MIMS Surulere annex put Green house on top of the medals table with Yellow, Purple and Blue coming second, third and fourth.
According to the medals list, An-Nur Pry school also from Somolu has it that Blue house joined its other annexes claiming the top spot which was followed by Green while Purple and Yellow house clinched third and fourth position.
Surprisingly, MIMS secondary school, Epe annex repeated the same feat as Somolu Pry and Secondary as Blue house grabbed the top spot thereby pushing Yellow to second position while Purple and Green shared third and fourth between themselves.
The event witnessed the students showcasing diverse skills in March Past, tracks and field.
