…meets markets taskforce team
The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu has placed his emergency team on top gear as the cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19) is increasing in Lagos State and Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The Mayor had called on Somolu Markets Task Force on how to ensure the announcement of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on shutting down markets in Lagos State. Hon. Rasaq Tajudeen (SA Market Matters) who is the Chairman of Somolu taskforce was summoned by the Mayor to meet with market leaders in Somolu to identify traders who sell food and other items mentioned by the Governor.
Meanwhile, the workaholic Mayor made it known that residents of his area should be law abiding and safety conscious as events and ceremonies of large gathering should be avoided where there is over 25 people and to ensure social distance is maintained especially with people sneezing or coughing.
However, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu applauded the swift actions of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State toward the Covid-19 Pandemic since the first case was discovered in the state as well as the closure of schools to prevent children and the ‘stay at home’ directive to level 1 to 12 officers in the civil service. He also commended the market shutdown directive to traders, except those who sell food items, water, pharmaceutical items and other daily needs.
The markets taskforce was directed by the Executive Chairman to ensure markets leaders obey the directive of the State Governor from Thursday, March 26, to curtail spreading of the deadly disease, Coronavirus. According to the Mayor, the law enforcement agencies were also notifies to make the task easier for the markets taskforce. He also cautioned traders against hiking the price of commodities and taking advantage of people during this season of movement restrictions.
