Residents of Odunlami in Somolu area of Lagos were thrown into yet another confusion and loss of valuable goods and properties worth thousands of Naira as fire razed down about three shops at about 6:25 on 17th Tuesday, 2020.
According to an eyewitness account, the fire was reported to have sparked off from one the shops as a result of high voltage which resulted in burning down chains of shops belonging to fashion entrepreneurs in the area.
However, It took the efforts good-spirited Somolites who salvaged the situation thereby stopping the fire from spreading to the other buildings in the àrea.
Burnt clothing items and some other tailoring equipment were seen littered the street with sympathizers hovering round the victims of the fire disaster who could not believe their sight.
Although, no life was lost in the incident that lasted for more than an hour before it was put off by the people in the area.
Meanwhile, a fortnight ago, similar fire incident was averted as a story building around Abimbola Street in the same area was gutted by fire around 10 am when the owners of the apartments were barely settling down in their place of work.
One the residents who spoke with somolunews online sàid fire incident is becoming so rampant in the recent times as he urged the government to look outside the box and ensure something drastic is done to curb the incessant fire disaster that oftentimes leaves people in dilemma.
“It’s rather surprising that in the space of two weeks, we have experienced two fire incidents and the most unfortunate is that most times, the fire servicemen get the scene late which basically is due to the distance and the bad road network”.
“Today, for instance, a call was put across to the fire servicemen but before they got here, the fire has been extinguished which made presence useless. Imagine servicemen coming from Alausa to Somolu, things would have bad”
“In essence, we’re calling on the government to find a way of putting up a fire service office in every local government area of the state where people can have access to their service at every point in time to avert loss of lives and properties”. he stated
