Community Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (COMPASS), the umbrella body of all community media in the country has lauded Nigeria Oil and Gas magnate, Femi Otedola for showing the heart of kindness to one of the foremost Reggae legends, Majek Fashek by picking Majek’s hospital bills.
The ‘rainmaker’ was reported to have fallen ill in London a few days ago and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth hospital in England where he’s recuperating.
According to the President of the association, Majek Fashek who described Femi Otedola as the ‘Father Theressa’ of our generation who oftentimes come to the rescue of Nigerians who have one challenge or the other especially those with health challenges.
“There’s no doubt about the fact that Femi Otedola is a good Samaritan, a kind and generous personality who will stop at nothing to ensure he put a smile on the faces of those who seek for his help and those he feels need to be assisted”.
He continues “Imagine that, he does that irrespective of their tribe or background. It shows that he’s a true Nigerian who has the interest of his people at heart while others prefer to spend their riches on women and immaterial things”.
Meanwhile, the ailing veteran reggae musician will be the fourth high profile Nigerians with severe health challenge whom Otedola has through his humanitarian and exemplary gesture saved their lives in the space of eight months.
Meanwhile, this latest development comes days after Majek’s manager debunked that the singer had died.
The 56-year-old singer arrived in the UK a week ago after his condition became critical.
In 2015, it was revealed that Majek was bankrupt and battling drug addiction. After admitting that he needed help at the time, he was admitted into a drug rehabilitation centre in Abuja.
As one of Nigeria’s surviving Reggae music legend, Majek attracted international attention in 1987, with his self-penned tune, ‘Send Down The Rain.’
The singer also played a supporting role in the 2000 Nollywood movie ‘Mark of the Beast’.
However, Aderinola has called on other elites and well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the development of their immediate environment in their own little way through kind and cash.
“It’s not ideal to wait until one has millions of Naira before thinking of helping others who need one assistance or the other at a particular moment. Remember, a Naira can save a life”. he posited
