The newly elected President of the Community Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (COMPASS), Comrade Tayo Aderinola on Tuesday in a press release commended the Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo Olu for progressive changes in the state infrastructures since his assumption of office within 100 days.
Aderinola noted that “the Sanwo Olu’s quick reintroduction of the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) for palliative repairs of Lagos roads has helped to curb gridlock through continuous rehabilitation of failed sections of major roads across the state” the Lagos Panorama Publisher/Editor opined.
He further stated that “we the Community Media Practitioners have observed with keen interest that the Governor since assumption of office has been committed to finishing outstanding projects of his predecessors which we see as a progressive approach to sustainable development so we urged him to continue on this trend of seeing governance as a continuum.”.
“It is pertinent we appeal to Governor Sanwo-Olu to ensure the completion of the Agege flyover started by former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode who didn’t accomplish despite numerously promising to commission the project before leaving the office. It also gladdens us that work has commenced of the failed Badagry expressway which have been abandoned by previous governments both at the state and federal levels. It’s a shame that such an important international route could be abandoned”.
“Sanwo Olu scored another pass mark with the recent completion of the Jakande Gardens, The housing estate project started by Mr Babatunde Fashola administration. It was already at 80 percent stage of completion when Mr Ambode took over but one wonders why such a laudable project was abandoned despite the housing deficit in Lagos state. However, within 100 days, Sanwo-Olu had completed another people-oriented project. An indication that better days are ahead”.
“In essence, we appreciate the take-off style of our Governor and commend his momentum however we plead for more responsive governance”.
Aderinola also lends his voice against the unfortunate shooting of 2 students of Kanko secondary school Badagry and a driver by officers of the Nigerian Customs service. He urged a thorough investigation of the matter.
“The job of the security agencies should be felt mostly at the border posts and not within the community. We urge the police to do a thorough investigation and ensure the prosecution of erring officers. We need to show value for life” the COMPASS helmsman asserted.
Aderinola also condemned the xenophobic attacks being unleashed on Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa, describing it as disheartening and saddening.
“In an interview, the South African President was lackadaisical on the xenophobia issue. Both Nigeria and South Africa Governments have allowed the issue to linger for too long and it’s now causing rioting before our own President reacted, This thing has been happening for a long time. Now people have decided to take the matter into their own hands by rioting which I don’t think is the solution but it got a reaction from the government. Our government should be more proactive than been responsive because it’s more expensive to react to a cause than prevent the occurrence”.
