Somolu LG Mayor ‘Dullar’ hosts African table tennis hero, Omotayo

…meets Senator Bayo Osinowo for Olajide
…to setup Somolu Table Tennis Academy
…says talents abound in Somolu

The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu, earlier this week received in audience, the latest African Table Tennis hero, Omotayo Olajide.

The Somolu Council Mayor received the Somolu born and trained Omotayo Olajide who was in the company of his father, Omotayo Rotimi and his coach, Hameed Ismail Surmer. Coach Surmer was the head coach who trained Olajide at the Table Tennis section of Somolu Indoor Sports Training Centre at Agunbiade.

According to Olajide, “Somolu produced me for Africa to the World and I need the partnership of the government to train more Table Tennis players in Somolu to enable us to produce more international champions”, Olajide said.

Upon his request, the Executive Chairman, who was with the leader of Somolu Legislative Council, Hon. Yomi Osunkoya; liaised with the Council-Manager, Mr Lai Giwa who keyed into the idea of the council boss to give a facelift to the indoor sports training centre and make it a sport academic standard.

However, the Council Mayor facilitated the meeting between the ping-pong maestro and the Lagos East Senator Adebayo Osinowo. Senator Osinowo emphasised that Omotayo Olajide is an athlete that must be encouraged to produce more of his kind. The Senator also promised to facilitate the meeting of the athlete and Governor Olusola Sanwo-Olu as Olajise is an important glory to Lagos East, Lagos State in particular and Nigeria at large. Omotayo Olajide plays for A.S.D. Tennistavolo in Genova.

In his submission, the Council Mayor of Somolu made it known that Olajide will be encouraged to do more in Table Tennis competitions in the world as Somolu will be sending Olajide and his coach Summer to Europe for more exposure and experience.
