…launch riders’ jackets
As part of their efforts to induce sanity and regularize the motorcycle operations in their area, the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu and Hon. Rotimi Olowo (Lagos State House of Assembly member, Somolu 1) recently held a tête-a-tete discussion with the security operatives and the apex leaders of the motorcycle riders in the area with the aim to normalize their operations.
While addressing the riders’ union excos, the Mayor made it known that the security and safety of the people of Somolu are very important and must not be treated with levity. “All commercial motorcycle operators must be certified rider with their Lagos State riders card and proper identity and registration must be taken into records”, the Mayor said.
Hon. Rotimi Olowo, in his remarks, warned the Chairman of Motorcycle Riders in Somolu to make proper scrutiny of the riders they will register as Police are also involved in the process. “If you register criminals or strangers, it will implicate your association greatly because the purpose of this process was to weed out the bad eggs among the riders”, the veteran Legislator said.
The DPO of Alade Police Station in his remarks commended the duo of Dullar and Olowo for the meeting. He stated that he has always been maintaining a friendly relationship with the community and most especially with its representatives in the discharge of his duties. He noted that most of their operations in some cases were due to the directives they received from their superior. He emphasized the mutual cooperation and adherence to the laid down rules as the only way for the smooth running of their business.
The occasion was witnessed by the DPOs of Alade Police State and Onipanu Police Station. The Leader of Somolu Legislative Council, Hon. Yomi Osunkoya was also in attendance with Hon. Adesina Adenuga (Deputy Majority Leader). Comrade Adeniyi Alausa and other leaders of the Motorcycle Operators Association of Lagos State (MOALS) arm of National Union of Transport Workers (NURTW) in Somolu were all present as the special registration number-coded riders’ jackets were presented by the Mayor of Somolu and Hon. Rotimi Olowo in the presence of the police officers present.
