The chairman of Unity Community Development Association (CDA), Engr. Olanrewaju Odujoko has urged the residents of Unity CDA to shun the idea of placing or dumping refuse on/into the drainages/canal as this act could trigger flood whenever there’s rain.
According to Odujoko who spoke to Somolunews on Tuesday complained about the rate at which some residents place dustbin on the drainage and described this act as unruly, barbaric, and unacceptable.
“We’ve warned them severally to desist from this unhealthy behaviour and, anyone or house find culpable will be sanctioned as we cannot continue with kind of attitude that could jeopardize the health and lives of those inhabiting in the community”.
“The rainy season is very much around and anytime it rains, those dustbins will eventually end up in the drainage and block the free passage of water and before you know it, the flood will take over the community thereby wrecking untold hardship on the community. Prevention is better than cure, it’s better to avert the calamity of flooding rather than allowing it”. he noted
Meanwhile, the Unity CDA chairman has called on the Somolu Council chairman to help evacuate the silt removed from the drainage to avert finding its way back into drainages/canal while he lauded the chairman, Hon. AbdulHamed Salau ‘Dullar’ for the wonderful job he has been doing since he assumed office.
Odujoko however, tasked the sanitation officers to ensure they continue to enlighten the residents on the dangers of engaging in the unlawful act of disposal of refuse in the canal and drainages and not hesitate to sanction any erring residents caught in the act.
The Secretary of the association, Mr. Faloni Olayiwola in his contribution emphasized the need for the PSP assigned to the area to be up and doing in discharging of their duty as some residents are taking undue advantage of not coming regularly to place their dustbin on the drainage which has been causing eyesore in the area.
