In the same year, she veered into business development as it was a natural fit for her passion to optimise assets, processes and business opportunities and thus grew to become the Assistant Business Development Manager because of her outstanding sales performance in selling PBMC’s telenovella assets – Lorenzo’s Wife and most-watched Second Chance.

Her passion for start-ups led her to co-found Sportsbrand Ltd with two other directors. At Sportsbrand, her core focus was on sports content development, sales, and marketing. She succeeded in helping to build the company’s revenue from zero to a multi-million naira company in a space of three years.

The then Continental Broadcasting Service now known as TVC Communications offered her an opportunity to cross from independent content production into television and radio broadcast environment as an Assistant Business Development Manager for the group’s portfolio that includes TVC Entertainment and Radio Continental now Max FM where she later rose to become the Business Development Manager for the group due to her outstanding performance of meeting and surpassing her monthly revenue target consecutively.

Further into her service at TVC Communication, the Group added TVC News Nigeria, TVC Int’l and TVC Digital to their bouquet of stations thereby giving her another wonderful opportunity to expand her areas of proficiency in digital marketing, channel distribution, maintaining strict adherence to UK’s Ofcom broadcast regulation with an advantage to deploy intercontinental sales and marketing experience for TVC Int’l.

In the course of her service, Akatugba took on the challenge and worked with her team to turn around the commercial outcomes of these stations. TVC Entertainment especially grew to become one of the most-watched TV stations in Lagos within a few years. Her monthly advertising patronage also saw a remarkable increase in performance.

Impressed by her results, Akatugba was invited by the management of Consolidated Media Associates Group owners of ONTV, Soundcity TV & Radio, etc. as a strategic business manager to pioneer the start of Soundcity Radio with oversight functions to Soundcity TV. With her guidance and an extensive network, Akatugba made an immediate impact on the commercial outcomes of Soundcity Radio and got promoted to become the Group Strategic Business manager for ONTV, Soundcity TV, Soundcity Radio and all other CMA’s TV stations where she optimised their combined reach to deliver multimillion naira partnerships and sponsorships.

Akatugba joined RED Group to deploy her experience in the sale and pitching for PR Accounts – Red Media Africa, Digital Media sales – Ynaija and Rubbin’ Minds. She led her team to double the unit’s revenue within a period of six months before taking on her new position at The Guardian Group in August 2019 as Commercial Director.
