In a joint message, the leaders joined millions of Christians and political figures across Somolu, Lagos and the country at large in marking the solemn occasion, which symbolises the crucifixion and sacrificial death of Jesus Christ for the redemption of mankind.
They described Good Friday as a moment of deep reflection, emphasising its significance in the Christian faith as a day that underscores the virtues of sacrifice, humility, love, and forgiveness.
According to them, the lessons derived from the life and death of Christ remain relevant in fostering peace and unity within society.
Hon. Ashimi noted that the season presents an opportunity for residents of Somolu to renew their commitment to peaceful coexistence and community development. He urged citizens to embody the spirit of selflessness and compassion in their daily interactions, especially in these challenging times.
Similarly, Hon. Salawu ‘Dullar’ called on Christian faithful to use the solemnity of the occasion to pray for the continued progress, stability, and prosperity of Somolu, Lagos State, and the nation at large. He stressed the need for collective responsibility in building a more inclusive and harmonious society.
The leaders further encouraged residents, irrespective of religious affiliations, to draw inspiration from the message of Good Friday by promoting tolerance, understanding, and unity across all communities.
They expressed hope that the commemoration would strengthen the faith of believers and inspire a renewed dedication to the ideals of peace, justice, and service to humanity.
