The initiative, which is part of the chairman’s broader vision to expand access to higher education, aims to alleviate the financial burden on indigent yet brilliant students and ensure that no qualified youth in Somolu is denied the opportunity to pursue tertiary education due to a lack of funds.
Beyond the provision of examination forms, beneficiaries will also undergo thorough pre-examination counselling sessions to prepare them mentally and strategically for the UTME.
The counselling programme will focus on examination techniques, subject combination guidance, career counselling, and general academic preparedness to improve candidates’ chances of securing admission into higher institutions.
According to information made available by the council, applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria to benefit from the initiative. Interested youths are required to possess a valid National Identification Number (NIN) and must have generated their official JAMB Profile Code.
In addition, applicants must have obtained at least five credits in their O-Level examinations (WASSCE, NECO, or GCE), including relevant subjects required for their intended course of study. Only youths who are bona fide residents of Somolu Local Government are eligible to apply.
The programme has been widely commended by community stakeholders, who described it as a timely intervention that underscores the council’s commitment to human capital development. Observers note that by investing in education, the Ashimi-led administration is laying a strong foundation for sustainable growth and social mobility within the community.
Speaking on the initiative, supporters of the chairman emphasised that the free JAMB scheme aligns with his administration’s development agenda captured in the slogan #BuildingSomoluTogether, as well as the broader state vision of #AGreaterLagosRising.
The initiative is expected to significantly boost tertiary institution enrollment among Somolu youths this year, further reinforcing the local government’s resolve to nurture a new generation of educated, skilled, and productive citizens.
