…opens probe into Quarter-Final incidents
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has strongly condemned what it described as unacceptable conduct by some players and officials during the quarter-final matches of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025, announcing the opening of a formal investigation into the reported incidents.
In a statement released on Sunday, CAF confirmed that it has reviewed recent match officials’ reports alongside video evidence pointing to potentially inappropriate behaviour during the quarter-final encounters between Cameroon and Morocco, as well as Algeria and Nigeria.
Following a preliminary assessment, CAF disclosed that the matters have been officially referred to its Disciplinary Board for a thorough investigation. The continental football body stressed that appropriate sanctions would be applied should any of the individuals involved be found culpable of breaching CAF’s code of conduct and competition regulations.
CAF also revealed that it is examining video footage of a separate incident involving members of the media who allegedly engaged in misconduct within the mixed zone area after one of the matches.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance, CAF warned that any form of unprofessional behaviour-particularly actions directed at match officials, referees, or organisers, will not be tolerated at its competitions.
“CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour occurring during matches or official activities,” the statement read. “All individuals involved in CAF competitions are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, respect, and sportsmanship.”
The football governing body assured fans, stakeholders, and participating teams that decisive action would be taken to protect the integrity of the tournament and preserve the spirit of fair play that the Africa Cup of Nations represents.
CAF added that further updates would be communicated at the conclusion of the disciplinary proceedings.
