Kano State government has refuted claims of spending ₦2.3 billion on a goat project, dismissing the reports as false and misleading.
The government refuted allegations that it spent ₦2.335 billion on goats for its women’s livestock empowerment initiative.
A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullah Waiya, clarified that the program allocated only ₦450 million for goat procurement.
He clarified that the statement was released to correct misinformation and provide the public with accurate information about the program’s expenses.
According to Waiya, the initiative aims to promote economic independence among women and youth by distributing livestock.
As part of the program, 7,158 goats were allocated to 2,386 women, with each woman receiving three goats to support them in starting livestock-based businesses.
Moreover, 1,400 cows and 1,975 rams were provided to other beneficiaries to further encourage self-reliance.
The commissioner emphasized the government’s dedication to transparency and accountability, encouraging media professionals to verify their reports in order to prevent misinformation.
He added, “This initiative is consistent with the administration’s primary objective of enabling vulnerable groups to attain economic independence.”
