Oyewusi made the remarks on Saturday, July 4, 2026, during the 10th edition of the Renewed Hope Food Palliative known as ‘Ounje Arugbo Welfare Programme’ for elderly residents, held at the new Somolu Local Government Secretariat in Bashua, Somolu, Lagos.
The APC chieftain, popularly known as Apostle Oyewusi, praised Ashimi’s administration for sustaining people-oriented programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents, particularly senior citizens.
According to him, the consistency of the ‘Ounje Arugbo initiative’ demonstrates the chairman’s commitment to delivering on the promises made during the electioneering campaign and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach the grassroots.
“No doubt about the fact that Ashimi is following in the footsteps of his predecessor, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’, who laid down the developmental blueprint he is currently following,” Oyewusi said.
“I give kudos to him and pray that God grants him more wisdom, good health and a sound mind to continue doing the needful wherever and whenever necessary.”
He noted that continuity in governance remains one of the greatest strengths of the current administration, stressing that maintaining programmes initiated by previous leaders has helped sustain development and public confidence in the local government.
The elder statesman further described the welfare scheme for the elderly as a compassionate initiative that reflects the government’s concern for vulnerable members of society amid prevailing economic challenges.
While congratulating the council chairman for successfully hosting the 10th edition of the programme, Oyewusi called on political leaders, party faithful and stakeholders within the APC to put aside personal differences and embrace unity.
He warned against actions capable of creating division within the party, saying internal conflicts could undermine the progress already recorded by the administration.
According to him, genuine reconciliation, mutual respect and collective responsibility are essential ingredients for strengthening the APC ahead of future political engagements.
Oyewusi urged party members to shun discordant voices and avoid unnecessary confrontations, emphasising that the progress and stability of the party should take precedence over individual interests.
He maintained that when leaders work together in harmony, members become more committed, governance becomes more effective and the party stands a better chance of consolidating its achievements across Somolu.
The APC stalwart concluded by expressing confidence that sustained unity among leaders and members would further enhance development within Somolu Local Government and preserve the legacy of progressive governance established over the years.
