Nigerian music star Adekunle Gold has etched his name into the nation’s entertainment history after becoming the first artiste to completely sell out a concert at the newly revamped Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts, Lagos.
The landmark feat was achieved on December 26, 2025, when the singer filled the 3,560-capacity auditorium of the iconic venue, formerly known as the National Theatre, during his widely acclaimed concert titled Fuji. The show ranked among the earliest major music performances staged at the centre since its reopening in October 2025 following extensive renovations.
In recognition of the milestone, organisers presented two commemorative plaques at the event. One plaque was awarded to Something Different Management, Events and Record Label for successfully organising the historic concert, while the second plaque honoured Adekunle Gold as the first headline act to sell out the venue.
The citation on the plaque presented to the record label read: “Something Different Management, Events and Record Label. Record label for Adekunle Gold sold out National Theatre event in Lagos, Nigeria.”
The concert itself stood out for its rich artistic delivery, blending orchestral arrangements with Afrobeats as Adekunle Gold performed alongside a full live orchestra. Guests adhered to a black-tie dress code, adding an aura of elegance to the night, which attracted notable personalities from across Nigeria’s entertainment and creative industries.
Popular rapper Olamide, who introduced the singer on stage, hailed him with glowing remarks, urging the audience to enjoy what he described as a night of exceptional music from “AG Baby.”
Adding to the spectacle were special performances by Fuji music icon Adewale Ayuba and renowned gospel singer Yinka Ayefele, whose appearances brought a vibrant mix of genres and heightened excitement among attendees.
The Wole Soyinka Centre was renamed in honour of Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka as part of the comprehensive transformation of the National Theatre, repositioning it as a hub for culture, arts and creative excellence.
Adekunle Gold’s achievement not only marks a personal career milestone but also signals a new era for live music performances at the historic Lagos landmark.
