…muslim Community Celebrates Hon. Maryam Owolabi-Bada and Others
The Nawair-ud-deen Society of Nigeria, Somolu/Bariga Branch, on Sunday, October 12, 2025, held a colourful and well-attended ceremony to honour distinguished members of the Muslim community, including Hon. Mrs. Maryam Owolabi-Bada, the former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) to the immediate past Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’.
The prestigious event, which took place at the society’s central mosque hall on Adesina Street, Bariga, brought together a large gathering of influential personalities from the religious, political, and community development sectors.
The ceremony was marked by heartfelt tributes, prayers, and recognition of other notable individuals who have also made significant contributions to society and to the Islamic faith.
Hon. Owolabi-Bada was specifically recognised for her devout participation in the 2025 holy pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina — a spiritual journey that holds deep significance in Islam.
Delivering the opening address, the Chairman of the Nawair-ud-deen Society, Somolu/Bariga Branch, Alhaji Chief S.A. Adedamola, highlighted the importance of honouring individuals who not only serve the faith but also commit themselves to the progress of their communities.
“We are not just recognising a former government official,” Alhaji Adedamola stated. “We are honouring a woman who has used her office to touch lives, uplift families, and embody the values of Islam in service to humanity. Her pilgrimage, coupled with her community service, speaks volumes of her devotion both spiritually and civically.”
In her response, Hon. Maryam Owolabi-Bada expressed sincere appreciation to the Nawair-ud-deen Society for the honour, describing it as both humbling and inspiring. She also reflected on her spiritual journey and how it continues to shape her commitment to service.
“This recognition is not just for me, but for every woman who chooses service over silence, and every girl who dares to dream beyond her limitations,” she said. “I thank the Nawair-ud-deen Society for reminding us that our efforts are not unnoticed. I remain committed to using whatever platform I have to make a difference.”
The event featured Qur’anic recitations, prayers for the honourees, and special moments of reflection on the significance of Hajj and community responsibility. Other awardees were also celebrated for their spiritual achievements and contributions to Islamic growth in the area.
