Following the commemoration of World Teachers’ Day on Sunday, October 5, 2025, the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, bagged an Exemplary Leadership Award from the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Somolu Branch.
During the programme, which brought together teachers from primary and secondary schools within the community, Chairman Ashimi, ably represented by the Chief of Staff, Prince Sodiq Adeeso, was recognised among the outstanding dignitaries who merited this year’s special honour.
According to the statement released by the NUT structure via its Chairman, Comrade Eludoyin Samson Olubunmi, Hon. Ashimi clinched the award in recognition of his contribution to the growth and development of education and his passion and commitment to achieving excellence in education in Somolu and Lagos State.
Today, the Council Chairman officially received the award from the NUT team, while he also appreciated them for their thoughtful gesture.
“I feel honoured to be receiving this special recognition from the NUT delegates, whose significance to the educational system is top-notch. Indeed, the essence of being a public office holder, especially as the Chairman, is to use the position to drive grassroot development for the benefit of all. Educational intervention remains an undisputed core part of our administration that will always be enhanced for the success of our dedicated pupils and students.” he said.
