Somolu, Lagos – The political atmosphere in Somolu Local Government was charged with enthusiasm as leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gathered for the much-anticipated LGA congress on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
The event held at the Agunbiade Political Arcade, the event witnessed a massive turnout of party stalwarts, aspirants, and their supporters. The congress served as a platform for discussions on key political matters, including preparations for the forthcoming local government chairmanship and councillorship elections as well as the registration for Permanent Voters Card (PVC).
Chairmanship and councillorship aspirants, accompanied by their teeming supporters, were in attendance, signaling the high stakes and intense interest in the upcoming polls. Party elders, stakeholders, and grassroots mobilizers also participated actively, emphasizing the APC’s commitment to internal democracy and party unity.
During the meeting, the LGA Chairman, Hon. Yomi Olubamido stressed the need for the aspirants to exercise patients till the election guidelines is being released by the Lagos APC leadership.
“It’s important for all political aspirants to exercise patients regarding the party’s strategies for the elections, including candidate selection, campaign approaches, and ways to ensure victory at the polls”.
He further mentioned that the processing for voters registration would begin in earnest stating that members must present their NIN document for him/her to be able to secure the PVC.
Another speaker and the Chairman, Somolu/Bariga Apex leaders, Apostle Peter Oyewusi at the event urged aspirants to have a change of mind and spend his money wisely rather than wasting his/her time and money.
“Let me use this medium to advise some of the aspirants who are aspiring to contest for whatever post they choose to spend your money wisely. Assist your family members who need your assistance rather than wanting to spend the money on political ambition you’re not sure of”. Oyewusi warned.
He however, enjoined members to remain steadfast, united, and focused on the party’s objectives, stressing the importance of loyalty and commitment to APC’s ideals.
The congress also provided an opportunity for aspirants to interact with party leaders, present their visions, and seek support from delegates ahead of the party primaries.
With the level of engagement and participation witnessed at the congress, it is evident that the upcoming elections in Somolu LG will be keenly contested, with aspirants and their supporters eager to secure the party’s ticket.
The APC leadership, however, emphasized the need for peaceful conduct, urging aspirants and their followers to abide by the party’s rules and electoral guidelines.
