…urges residents to prioritize their health status
In a bid to promote a healthier community, Hon. Abdul Lateef Ashimi, a councillor representing Ward B in Somolu Local Government Area of the state, organized a one-day free health outreach for his constituents on Saturday 15th February 2025.
The initiative, aimed at providing residents with free medical check-ups and consultations, was well received by the community, as a large number of people turned out to take advantage of the program.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Ashimi emphasized the importance of good health, describing the outreach as a way of giving back to the people he represents. He noted that achieving personal and communal goals is impossible without sound health, hence the need to bring the initiative directly to the doorstep of his constituents.
“Health, they say, is wealth. It is only when one is in good health that they can engage in daily activities and be productive. Without good health, nothing can be achieved. That is why I decided to bring this health outreach to my community and I will enjoin my people to always take advantage at their fingertips to check their health status when and where necessary”. He said.
He further expressed his delight at the overwhelming turnout, stating that the initiative was already making an impact. “With the large crowd gathered here, it is clear that people are utilizing this opportunity to check their health status. I believe this will not only help reduce the number of people suffering from undetected health conditions but also prevent unnecessary hospital visits”. He added.
Reacting to the outreach, the Chairman of the Onaolapo Community Development Association (CDA); Mr. Kayode Sangoode commended Hon. Ashimi for prioritizing the well-being of his constituents. He described the initiative as a laudable effort that demonstrates the councillor’s commitment to the people, urging other political officeholders to emulate his gesture.
Similarly, another beneficiary of the health programme Comrade Kudirat Lawal expressed her gratitude, stating that the free medical check-up provided her with valuable insights into her health conditions.
Samuel Edet in his submission described the organizer of the health initiative as a role model who brought another face of representation to leadership in Ward D, noting that such an initiative has never been experienced in the constituency ever before.
“I appreciate the health initiative organized by Hon. Ashimi because we’ve never experienced such an initiative because many times in the past after voting, many of our councillors will be nowhere to be found until another election year. Every day, we meet him to discuss the way forward and he has always been there for us. I give him kudos for the wonderful initiative”.
With this initiative, Hon. Ashimi has once again proven his dedication to the welfare of his people, reinforcing the belief that responsive leadership can make a tangible difference in the lives of the citizens.
Meanwhile, Hon. Ashimi never hesitates to shower encomium on the Multiple Award-winning Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government; Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’ for his exemplary leadership which has made the execution of projects at the constituency level easier and more accessible.
