The organizers of the Somolu Progressive Snooker Tournament, under the leadership of Malik Olawale Matti, has promised to make the second edition of the tournament a more exciting and memorable sporting event when the game kicks off in earnest.
Mr. Matti made the assertion while speaking to Somolu News recently where he described the game of snookers as one of the major sports in the Somolu community that draws the attention of sports lovers and all other stakeholders, the reason why the game has become a household name in Somolu community.
He added that he was surprised that players and snookers’ lovers of the game who participated in the first edition have been craving the second edition of the tournament owing to the huge attention the maiden edition attracted stating that the organizers have taken their time to assess the last edition and made considerable improvement on the next edition.
“Honestly, I was surprised when some of the participants of the first edition said they’re eagerly waiting for the second edition claiming that the maiden edition was an exciting and memorable one, and from that, we have made a critical assessment from the last edition and put up a fantastic and well-improved tournament that’ll be exciting and memorable as expected”.
“I’m glad that the first edition was a huge success despite the low turnout of sponsors but we’re hopeful we’ll have a handful of them this time around which will believe will add glamour to the sporting event.” He stated.
Meanwhile, Malik said putting resources together to organize the game to discover snooker’s talents was his own way of giving back to the society noting that the game will not only keep the youths off the street against drug abuse and other social vices but also make them respectable personalities in the community, state, and Nigeria at large.
The champion of the tournament smiles home with N50,000,00, the second winner will settle for N30,000 while the third will get N20,000 for his effort respectively.
The draw for the event will be coming up at the Somolu Table Tennis Indoor Hall, Agunbiade Primary School, Somolu, Lagos on the 21st of October while the game will commence on the 28th of October, 2023.
The convener, Malik Matti, however, thanked the community leaders, the stakeholders, the players, the council chairman, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’, the House of Assembly member representing Somolu Constituency I; Hon. Orekoya, the Commissioner 4, Lagos State Local Government Commission; Hon. Bowale Sosimi and all others who contributed one way or the other to the huge success recorded in the maiden edition while counting on their unflinching supports for the oncoming edition.
