One of the Islamic clerics in the country and the Chief Missioner of AOFAT Perfection International, Lagos, Fadilat Khalifah Abdul-Ganiyi Afolayan (Olorunjeda) has admonished parents and guardians to ensure they give their ward(s) good moral support and as well encourage them more rather than criticize them more often.
Speaking to SomoluNews recently in his office, the Mudir of Darul-Fathi Arabic School said it has become imperative for parents and guardians to carry out their responsibilities as expected which will, in turn, make the children be useful to themselves and society at large.
He went further, “When parents fail to carry out their responsibilities on their children when and where necessary, the moral deficiency will definitely have a negative effect on such child and that’s where the problems start from”.
“Any child that lacks discipline will no doubt engages in moral decadency. They need to be monitored and encouraged to be positive minded and the parents need to criticize less so as not to push them into social vices that could spell doom in their life”.
“Some of the problems we’re having at the moment is as a result of the failure of some parents who abandoned their responsibilities at the expense of others or how do I explain a mother who leaves home at 5 am and returns home late in the night. She has no time for her daughter who she oftentimes leaves at the mercy of her neighbours”.
“What does she know is happening to her on a daily basis which her daughter could not have the opportunity to explain to her due to her late-night job?”
The Lagos-based cleric further urged parents and guardians to spend quality time with their children in order for them to feel the love and care of parenthood which by so doing will give the children the opportunity to share their views on some issues that are not clear to them.
