To find a lasting solution between the factions in the leadership tussle in Uganda Taekwondo Federation (UTF), Marvin Baryaruha has been made Interim President while fellow lawyer Ismail Bumba will be Baryaruha’s vice-president on an interim basis. NTV reports
An Extraordinary General Assembly in the capital Kampala also elected Judith Aujo General Secretary, Silver Ochora treasurer, and Andrew Ayela organizing secretary.
Baryaruha, speaking to NTV, said that a constitutional review to ensure the document is “streamlined” and in working order was among the priorities for the new regime.
Bringing “normalcy back to taekwondo, because taekwondo has been in disarray” is another key aim.
Ugandan Taekwondo players have struggled to compete internationally because of the domestic dispute, and no Ugandan athlete appeared at the 2019 African Games Taekwondo tournament or African qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Finding a new base for the UTF was another priority listed by Baryaruha.
Hakim Kati and Simon Peter Komakech had both claimed to lead the UTF but were reportedly convinced to step down at the Extraordinary General Assembly.
