It was an exciting and memorable event on Saturday 13th 2021 at the Banquet Hall of Somolu Local Government as the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Somolu chapter successfully organized Somolu Youth Leadership Assembly, SYLAS, to reconnect the youth on a leadership role in the midst of uncertainty.
Pep talks on leadership, entrepreneurship and health were major subject of discussion, inspiring participants on the ‘Hope to Reality’ call. The Coordinator of the branch, Comrade Musa Fasasi was the first to welcome all entrants with a briefing on the programme’s avowed intents before Dr Abayomi Ojekunle (Producer of Oyimomo TV Talk-Show on DSTV) took to the stage.
The introduction of the guest speaker, Abraham Great (Senior Pastor in the UK, Successful Entrepreneur and a Philanthropist) to the audience was done by Comrade Kola Abdul-Kabir (Secretary and Chairman, Planning Committee), who aimed for a motivating afternoon session with all.
According to Great, hope and faith must be built in the midst of uncertainty; and until there is a mental reformation, there can never be National reformation.
“Young minds must identify the positive people around them, add values as a problem solver for their chosen career, maintain their networks and never neglect people of great integrity because of temporary cause.”
“Those around you may never be ahead of you, but keep them, because they can spot the opportunity for your destiny. Turn your environment to the darkroom of your future and develop solid character,” he added
Ojekunle on the other hand tasks the youths as community builders to leverage their environment and promote their businesses to make visible impacts. As a buttress to his ideas, Comrade Oba Billi’amin Lekan (Lagos State Chairman, NYCN) urged the youths to get involved in the system, make use of pieces of information appropriately and be cautious of external influences to do what is necessary.
On the Health talk, Mrs Olanike Sanni (Health Educator, Somolu LG) emphasized the importance of the young generation and indulged the youths to help get rid of the deadly pandemic and take part in the Vaccination process sets for Monday, 15th of March, 2021.
In a speech delivered by Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu (Executive Chairman, Somolu LG), ably represented by his Chief Press Secretary, CPS Owolabi Oseni; stressed the need for young people to build a strong relationship in a fast-growing commercial hub like Somolu and to reach out to big personalities with innovative ideas to make their dreams come into reality, rather than seeking favour often. Comrade Aare Abdul Fatai (Vice Chairman, NYCN Lagos East) was also on stage, narrating how commitment, passion and an individual’s headstrong approach can drive small scale businesses in favour of one’s career.
The programme as held at the Conference Hall of the Somolu Local Government Secretariat was thrilled at intervals with interludes from the Coordinator and Comrade Lincoln Osho (Secretary II and Master of Ceremony), cheering the participants to fever pitch.
This was followed by certificate presentations with different photo sessions, while quick-witted persons among the attendees were opportune to receive ‘Free Books’ authored by Abraham Great (365 Brilliant English Words that influence people) for being actively present in the midst of others.
