Politics is not a full time job, It is a vocation.

By:Douglas Ogbankwa Esq.

The concept of Politics has varied connotations depending on your ideological or pedagogical leaning.
It was Harold Lasswell that said “Politics is who gets what, when and how”

Then David Easton posited that “Politics is the authoritative allocation of values”

Alexander Pope extended the narrative further when he said “Politics is the madness of many, for the benefit of a few”

John Jesen couched the concept of Politics in potently profound words when he said “History is past politics and politics is present history”

The last axiom aptly captures the essence of this article to it: That to appreciate the present status and capacity of a Politician, you must appraise his historical trajectory.

In this light, it is apposite to indicate that politics is a vocation and not a Profession.

A Politician must have an Office he goes to every morning that is his primary business.

If that is not the case, fear for yourself, your State and your Country.

It is the fact that Politics is now a full-time Profession that brings about the do or die attitude to it.

Politics is a process to evolve the political culture and imbibe political socialization and nothing more.

If you had a politician that is at all times available for rallies, meetings, caucuses etc., there you will know that the State wiĺl not be in safe hands as such Politician having taken Politics as a full-time occupation will definitely ensure a retirement benefit, to wit: mindless looting and obnoxious pension laws for political office holders of sometimes 4 years who then for life earn far, far more than civil servants that may have worked for 35 years.

We must identify the Statesmen from the Politicians and support and encourage the States Men, because: “Politicians think of the next elections, States Men think of the next generation”
